BLOG

AESTHETIC

If you're a blogger, business owner, or in a creative market, you know how important it is to have a great Instagram feed. With 300 million active monthly users it is without doubt the world's most popular social media outlet. Many business owners and bloggers depend on Instagram to drive traffic towards their content and promote their brand.

I, myself, update my Instagram far more than my actual website - it is definitely the platform where I get the most engagement and recognition. Through trial, error, and lots of time I've learned how to curate my personal aesthetic and translate that through a collection of photographs. One of the greatest compliments I receive on a regular basis consists of just 4 words: "I love your feed." As a blogger working my hardest to gain recognition and build a brand, there is no better comment than that, and I want to help others earn those 4 words too!

Nowadays, there are workshops, blogger conferences, and seminars on how to create an awesome Instagram. While the information they share is useful, it's hardly insightful. They are handing out the same general advice to a variety of different Instagram users. While you may walk away feeling inspired, sometimes the tips and tricks aren't specific enough for what your needs are.  Here's where I come in.

One session with me consists of:

  • I work with you on a one to one basis to discover your personal needs and develop your aesthetic through photographs.
  • I work on helping you create your color palette and teaching you how to lay out your photos so that your Instagram feed is nothing short of perfection!
  • I will personally photograph 15-25 images of:

You, your product, objects and scenes that relate to your brand, heck - even your breakfast if you want!

  • Lastly, I will teach you how to take these photos yourself and quick editing tips!

Lets say you don't want all the advice and just need me to photograph some stuff for you... No problem! I am more than happy to simply be your photographer! And no, you don't have to be a blogger or business owner - I am here to assist anyone who wants to simply have a great Instagram or photos to keep!

Through my own personal Instagram success and developing beauty content at LaurenKelp.com, I have helped several business owners, bloggers and creatives curate their own Instagram feeds into practical works of photographic art! Having good photos on Instagram will surely get you some likes and followers. Having GREAT photos will get you recognition, engagement, and most of all drive even more traffic to your wonderful brand!

THE CONSTANT BLAZER

Breann Bowman

Many of you might have noticed that I can't stop talking about or bringing up my trip to the east coast we took last month. I don't want to sound like a broken record, but it really was one of the best vacations I've ever taken. I think it's because our destinations were places I've been dying to see, and also because I got to experience them with Ben. So many of our vacations are typically spent in Northern California, so it was a breath of fresh air to travel to the opposite side of the country. We knew we'd be moving around a lot, and wanted to avoid the drudgery of hauling around lots of luggage. We opted to only have backpacks, which made packing a bit tricky. While in New York, it was important to me that I wear somewhat fashionable outfits, while still being able to walk all day in. I found that this blazer from Banana Republic was the perfect addition to each ensemble. I think I wore it almost every day while in the city!

I've always loved how versatile blazers can be. They're fantastic for adding a bit of sharpness to a casual look (like the one I'm sporting here) or completing a more professional style. I opted for a looser, boyfriend fit instead of a traditional one. This cut fits my personal aesthetic - one trying to be casually cool... like a Parisian woman.

In this look, I paired it with a basic black tee from Everlane, black jeans from Madewell, some New Balances, and my leather envelope purse from Fold Leather Co.

OCTOBER READS

Breann Bowman

Hey guys! It's me, Breann, remember me? No? I don't blame you. I've been pretty absent as of late. The last few months have consisted of new jobs, lots of life changes, and basically me just not putting in a lot of effort or work to this website. As the new fall season approaches, I find myself itching with new ideas and with a new desire to share more here on Things We Fancy. A few weeks ago Ben and I toured the east coast for 10 days. Maybe it's the energy from cities like NYC and Washington DC that have left me feeling inspired. Either way, I'm here now, and I have so much to share.

A couple of months ago, I gave myself a challenge to always have a book in my bag. Part of it is because I love to read and want to make more time for it. The other part is to keep myself away from  huge time wasters - like creeping all over the Kardashian's Instagram feeds. Since this challenge began, I've discovered so many wonderful novels, biographies, and short stories that I truly love. At least once a month, I will be sharing these publications with you. I'm really excited to share what I've found and hear your feedback. Today I want to share a book that has recently gained a lot of attention. It has even started to grace the bookshelves of Anthropologie - so you know it's good. I'd be lying if I said it wasn't a total game changer!

Earlier this year I was going through a particularly hard time. I was working two jobs and felt extremely burned out. My dear friend Lauren Kelp called me up one day and patiently listened as I cried about being tired and overworked. At one point I told her that I didn't even have time to clean my house - which was only adding to my stress. After empathizing with my situation, Lauren recommended I read the book "The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up" by Marie Kondo. I feigned interest in the book and downloaded it on my phone, pretty convinced that I'd never read a book about cleaning.

A few short weeks later I was able to quit one of my jobs and resume a normal schedule. Hallelujah! With plenty of spare time on my hands I started to clean up the house, but was a bit stuck on the organizing. It seemed everything I worked to put away would be out and in a mess again just a few days later. I remembered Lauren's suggestion and began reading. The big idea behind this book is as simple as it is profound, and that is : don't have anything in your home that doesn't spark joy.

Whether you have a decently clean house or struggle weekly to keep the clutter away, it seems we all at some point dedicate a few weekends a year to purge and deep clean. I've spent entirely too much of my limited spare time re-orgainzing my pantry and struggling to have a tidy bedroom. Two days after reading "The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up" (that's right, just two days!) I had my house perfectly clean and organized. I discarded items that I no longer cared for or used, and using Marie Kondo's KonMari Method, was able to find the proper place for each of my belongings. Sure there are days when I'm not home for a while and cleaning falls by the wayside. However because of the KonMari Method, it never takes me longer than 10-15 minutes to tidy up and get everything spick and span again! Like I mentioned, GAME CHANGER!

I'm so grateful to "The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up" for helping me get my crap together, and to Lauren for always having the best suggestions. You can get a digital copy of the book here, and a hard copy here. Good luck and happy tidying!

WHITE ON WHITE

Earlier this year some of our closest friends gave us the news that they would be moving to the east coast for school. We were devastated when they told us, especially since they likely wouldn't be able to visit home for the next 16 months. We decided then and there to plan a trip to see them. We're so excited to see them again, as well as explore some new spots! In September, Ben and I will be touring 5 east coast cities starting with Boston. While we're in that area, we are hoping to visit either Cape Cod or Martha's Vineyard. Now ever since the first time I saw "Jaws" as a kid (which was filmed in Martha's Vineyard) I have always been in love with small coastal towns. The ocean side cottages look like they're from a dream, and sitting on a deck eating a warm lobster roll while wearing a knit sweater sounds perfect to me.

Since this vacation is constantly on my mind, I can't help but incorporate nautical and classic elements to my wardrobe, especially considering the weather. This all white ensemble is something I would love to wear with some espadrilles while exploring the streets of Nantucket, or having dinner next to the water. I paired it with The Albany - a gorgeous espresso colored leather cross body bag from Fold Leather Co. I also couldn't help but include some peonies too - a true summer staple!

I couldn't be more excited to take this bag along with me to the east coast. There's nothing worse than having to lug around a heavy purse, particularly when trekking a big city. This cross body's high quality leather and smart design will be the perfect companion for toting the essentials like my phone, wallet, keys, sunglasses and lip balm. Now because I love Fold Leather Co. so much, I've teamed up with them for a giveaway of their Nashville wallet in Buckskin. You're going to absolutely love it!

ROCKSBOX

"Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and remove one accessory." -Coco Chanel

I've always considered myself a jewelry minimalist. Whenever I see myself in more than one or two pieces I feel like it's too gaudy, or I'm trying too hard to be noticed. That being said, I do love me a good statement piece of jewelry, such as a wow-factor necklace or killer earrings. As most of you know by now, I hardly ever wear color. Neutrals are my go-to's, but I'm definitely not afraid to add a little pigment to my ensembles through accessories.

I love using Rocksbox for my jewelry needs. Rocksbox is an awesome company with a huge assortment of designer jewelry (Hello House of Harlow!!!) that sends you pieces to wear on loan based on your personal style. There's only one monthly fee and  you can send the jewelry back at anytime and order new pieces as much as you'd like. The ability to switch up and get new pieces each month is so cool, and I can especially appreciate there being no commitment. Because you, my readers, are so awesome, Rocksbox is offering your first month FREE with the code "thingswefancyxoxo". I can't wait for you to sign up and have your very own Rocksbox delivered to your home!

Most people don't know this about me, but I absolutely love the outdoors - particularly camping. When Ben and I started dating, we spent a good amount of time rock climbing, going on lake trips, snowboarding and having bonfires in the desert. While Phoenix doesn't necessarily have all the amenities of a huge urban city, we are blessed to host some of the best outdoors in the country. There really is such a unique beauty to Arizona's landscape. You can start in the desert, drive for a couple hours and all of a sudden find yourself in snow capped mountains. Before the brutal summer temperatures hit the valley, Ben and I are trying to spend every spare minute we can outside.

We have recently found that we are not alone in our quest to soak up as much outside time as we can. Indy Brand Clothing, an apparel company based out of our neighboring state Utah, sells clothing with simple messages of the love of outdoors. Ben and I absolutely love the minimalistic graphics, and more importantly the soft and cozy tees and hoodies. We recently wore them on a snowboarding trip and got compliments from tons of people! Check out Indy Brand Clothing here to see more of their awesome men's and women's apparel.
